My first book of poetry "The Healing Heart" is a compilation of a life of loving, living and searching for answers. As the eldest child, an eldest daughter; life was full of challenges and contradictions. Not the least of which was being the progeny of a city dweller, to a country girl. The country was my first home; my mother’s home, and reading; and a love of poetry, my mothers’ most precious gift to me. My New York born, father gave me wanderlust.
Being a person to whom patience has only recently attained value; poetry, the distillation of thought into precise, picturesque, syllables and metered rhyme; was at once a most perfect vehicle of expression. As a wee child poetry lulled me to sleep. As a teen, my immature, angry, fearful and impatient nature bathed its tormented heart in the words of Shakespeare, drowned in the salty wit of Chaucer and reveled in the freedom of e. e. Cummings. As a young wife and mother poetry helped me sort through the often frightening remembrances of childhood, as well as, the wondrous moments of love, and loving. Now, passing through the late colorful autumn of life poetry provides a palette to paint for the minds eye images of a higher power in all its shapes and sizes to the children of the Age of Aquarius.
Book two "Heaven and Hell in a Nutshell" was generated by the impact of book one and includes more ponderings on love; love when it feels like Heaven and when it feels like you're in Hell. Not just love between people but love of time, place or situation as well as, people. The lasr chapter pertains to love of God and Nature.
If these verses inspire the reader, stimulate them to write, compose, create; give them comfort, or simply open their mind to the world then they will have fulfilled my intent; since life is poetry with all it facets and foibles.
